Ghost Grove
2010
For the new civic auditorium in downtown Los Angeles I chose to create an image of an expansive orange grove, laser etched on anodized aluminum, along the walls of the auditorium building. Because the exterior walls are made of glass, the frieze will be visible as well from the outside of the building. The orange grove image honors the history of downtown Los Angeles, which was once flourishing with citrus groves. This piece seeks to extend the idea of the public park and plaza by referencing an extended notion of landscape.
